R17: Summarize several thematic interpretations of various titles.

Notes and Resources:

In the first step toward Biblioscopic Dialogue, students learn to compare their own interpretations of a work with the interpretations of other readers. The term “Biblioscopic Dialogue” refers to the highest form of reading, in which students actively participate in the ongoing conversation about ideas found in the Western literary tradition. Effective participation moves through three successive stages: first, we recognize the existence of the Dialogue in literature (you might say we learn to SEE); next, we take the shape of the Dialogue by close and careful reading (we learn to LISTEN); finally, we make original contributions to the Dialogue from our own vantage points in space, time, and experience (we learn to SPEAK).
