R18: Compose 6-10-page critical essays.

Notes and Resources:

The “Critical” Essay is distinct from the “Thematic” and “Interpretive” essays in that it requires the student to move beyond an explanation of the text to an explanation of the conversation about the text as it appears in the works of other readers. The student should consult a range of critical essays or student papers and then summarize, characterize, and evaluate the interpretations they offer. Finally, the student should offer his own interpretation of the text as a contribution to this discussion.
